  • 2 “Turtle doves” represent the Old and New testaments
  • 3 “French hens” represent the Holy Trinity or the 3 Virtues: Faith, Hope & Charity
  • 4 “Calling birds” represent the 4 Gospels
  • 5 “Golden rings” represent the first 5 books of the Old Testament, known as the Pentateuch
  • 6 “Geese-a-laying” represents the 6 days of creation
  • 7 “Swans a-swimming” represents the seven sacraments
  • 8 “Maids-a-milking” represents the eight Beatitudes
  • 9 “Ladies dancing” represents the 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit
